Three Reasons Why Now Is The Time For WWE To Make Women's Tag Team Titles

Right now in WWE, we've been seeing a push towards amazing female competitors being featured week in and week out. ThIs push has been meant with overwhelming fan support and has produced amazing matches and rivalries that will be remembered for years to come. WWE calls this the Women's Revolution. I call it a sign. It's become abundantly clear that the WWE audience is fully behind this "revolution" meaning it's about time that the women's division receives some more spotlight. That spotlight should come in the form of a women's tag team division. Theirs been quite a few signs as of late that the female superstars of WWE deserve some more air time, not to mention the fact that theirs been a huge influx of incredible female talent in the company over the past few years. A women's tag team division and accompanying title would give the division and talent more chances to show their skills while also providing the fans with something that they seemingly would enjoy. If you're not convinced yet though, here's a breakdown of the three biggest signs that the WWE is ready for a women's tag team division.
1. The Increase In New And Talented Female Competitors
With the Mae Young Classic and a vibrant NXT women's division, its become clear that the talent in the women's division is at an all time high. It's undeniable that the two finalists of the Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane and Shayna Blazer, will receive a massive push as a result of their success. In fact, Sane is already announced to compete for the NXT Women's Championship in November at NXT Takeover: Houston. Beyond those two competitors, the Mae Young Classic has clearly produced a variety of talent that could make an immediate impact in somewhere like NXT or maybe even the main roster. Just take a look at Bianca Blair or Kavita Devi, both of whom have generated quite the buzz on the internet. Now, since its become clear that the NXT Women's Division could easily become one of the most stacked title divisions in WWE, I think it's fairly obvious that some of the current NXT competitors could make a move up to the main roster. With Asuka already on her way to Raw, I don't think it would be a stretch to say that The Iconic Duo, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, would be ready for call up. On top of that, I would say it's about time that NIkki Cross receives a call-up as well, Sanity cohorts included but that's a discussion for another time. With The Iconic Duo, Asuka, and Nikki Cross on the main roster alone, it would either clear space for several women to move out of the singles title picture and into a tag team division, or in the case of Royce and Kay, have an established team ready to enter into the division to create some immediate buzz. With a roster as deep as it is now, WWE should capitalize and give some of their up-and-coming competitors a chance to shine.
2. Increased Interest In Ronda Rousey Competing In WWE
It seems like you can't go anywhere on the internet, at least in the sports world, without seeing something about Ronda Rousey and The Four Horsewomen. Its fair to say that it's been the most successful high profile appearance for WWE since Rob Gronkowski at Wrestlemania. While Gronk's appearance was a one-off, it would appear like Rousey is legitimately looking at a WWE career, or at least a few matches. The problem with that is that it would appear that her story in WWE is headed towards some sort of tag match between her UFC friends and Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Becky Lynch. Right now, theirs not much precedent for female tag team action on the main roster of WWE. Sure, Bayley and Sasha Banks have had their share of tag matches, and the rest of the roster has had a variety of throw together tag team contests, but nothing on a consistent, established basis. For the Rousey rivalry to have a true impact, it's clear that a real tag team bond will need to be created by at least two of the four competitors looking to beat the former UFC champ. Women's Tag Team Titles, along with a title reign by a team such as Bayley and Banks would assuredly add a sense of importance to the rivalry while also adding to the true team versus team vibe that is going to be necessary to the story as a whole.
3. It's What The Fans Would Want
It's no secret that the fans support for the WWE Women is at an all-time high. According to Forbes, female viewership of the WWE has been increasing along with merchandise sales for female competitors. On top of that, Bayley and Alexa Bliss were both among the Top Five most searched new superstars last year on Google. Cageside Seats even had an article discussing how the top eight most viewed programs on the WWE Network, at one point, were all episodes of the Mae Young Classic. This level of popularity in the Women's divisions of WWE means that now, more than ever, would be the right time to place a greater on-screen emphasis on the Women's divisions. A set of tag team titles would be the perfect tool to do just that too. It would mean that the women get more airtime on television while also potentially launching new female competitors into mainstream popularity.
Overall, I think that all of the signs clearly point to the need for WWE to capitalize on the tremendous popularity of their women's divisions. What better way to do that, then to give each division another title to compete for. In the end, a women's tag team division would be the perfect way to make sure that the "Women's Revolution" continues to be more than just corporate lingo.
