In Honor Of Father's Day: The Top 5 Dads In Pro Wrestling
In honor of this most sacred of Hallmark holidays, Father’s Day; I thought I would rank the Top 5 Father Figures in Wrestling History. This list extends across all wrestling promotions and all time periods, since great father figures are not just to the ranks of WWE. To make this most revered and exclusive list, since this is my list I can call it whatever I want, I looked at all of those who exude the unique qualities that make a good father. This includes, but is most definitely not limited to, someone who is: inspirational, caring, nurturing, and in general just seems like they are a great dad.
5. Ric Flair
No list would be complete if the Nature Boy, “WOO!”, Ric Flair was not included in the list. Think about it, this guy not only has time for stylin’, profilin’, jet-settin’, and women-gettin’ but even at his current age, he also finds time to help mold his daughter, Charlotte, into an up-standing, model citizen. And of course, who could forget Ric’s relationship with his son David? No one learns to care so much for a crowbar, unless they have seen that same love at home.
4. Mark Henry
While probably not the first person that comes to mind when you think of great wrestling fathers, Sexual Chocolate was the father to Mae Young’s…um…well, let’s just say that I am sure with his ability to induct people into his Hall of Pain, Mark Henry would have been a great child disciplinarian.
3. Vince McMahon
No Father’s day list would be complete without including the “Genetic Jackhammer” himself, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Vince has been nothing but an exceptional father to Stephanie and Shane throughout the years. For example:
- Vince has always provided a stable home life for his kids
- He always tries to raise his kids to new heights
- And he always took time out of his busy schedule to spend some quality time with them
2. Paul Bearer
No one, I think, is a better example of something who has mastered the art of single parenting than Paul Bearer. Not only did he have to try and raise one undead son, he also had to deal with his pyromaniac brother as well. Who can’t be impressed with all the love and affection that Paul Bearer showed to his boys throughout the years. And if that wasn’t good enough, the best part is that the boys can still inherit the urn and the family business.
1. Scott Steiner
And the best example of wrestling fathers, is of course, Big Poppa Pump, the Big Booty Daddy himself, Scott Steiner. The way he takes care of his “freaks and peaks” is truly inspiring and something that every father-to-be should strive to emulate. The Booty Dad is also something of a scholar who takes great joy in showing off his immense math and history skills. This is all without mentioning the loving motivation he would provide his children with. Anyways, if Big Poppa said he wanted to be on this list, would you argue with him? So here’s a Shout Out to all those wrestling father figures, “Holla if Ya Hear Me!”
And that’s my list of the greatest father figures in wrestling history. Sure, it may be completely objective (and accurate), but I believe I truly captured a good snapshot of all the dad’s who keep inspiring the wrestling world. Taking a page from another great wrestling dad Mick Foley, here’s a cheap plug for my website, Ringside Reactions, where you can find more fun articles like this along with reviews and reactions for a variety of wrestling news.
